A Thermal Baths Tour of Romania by Motorhome
Relaxation in the Cold Season — 2026 Guide

↺ Updated 2026 · ⏱ 8 min read · ✍️ Romanian Campers

Romania sits on a treasure of thermal waters, and autumn and winter are the perfect seasons to sink into them. With a motorhome you can do a real spa tour: move from one resort to the next, sleep right beside the thermal pool and wake up straight to a warm bath, in the steam rising above the water. Here are the best thermal destinations to tick off on a motorhome tour.

Băile Felix and 1 Mai (Bihor)

The largest and best-known thermal resort in Romania, open all year, with numerous warm pools and modern complexes. A well-developed tourist area, with campsites and guesthouses that welcome motorhomes nearby — an excellent starting point for a tour.

Geoagiu-Băi (Hunedoara)

Thermal waters in a spectacular natural setting, with open-air pools and springs used since Roman times. Ideal to combine with visits to the Orăștie–Sarmizegetusa area.

Călimănești-Căciulata and Băile Olănești (Vâlcea)

On the Olt Valley, these classic resorts offer mineral waters and gorgeous scenery, especially in autumn. The area is easily accessible by motorhome and lends itself to a stay of a few days, combining treatment with hiking.

Băile Herculane (Caraș-Severin)

One of the oldest thermal resorts in Europe, with fascinating historic architecture and hot springs in the dramatic setting of the Cerna Gorges. Worth including for its unique atmosphere.

Other thermal stops

  • Băile Tușnad (Harghita) — the smallest resort-town in the country, in the heart of the mountains.
  • Ocna Sibiului — salt lakes and pools, near Sibiu.
  • Bazna (Sibiu) — therapeutic waters and mud, in a quiet area.
  • Amara and Lacul Sărat (south-east) — for those setting off from Bucharest.

Why a thermal tour by motorhome

  • You move easily — tick off several resorts in a single holiday, without changing accommodation each time.
  • You sleep on site — after a day in the warm pools, the bed is a few steps away.
  • Extended season — thermal baths are perfect exactly when most people "close" the holiday season: autumn and winter.
  • Lower cost — off-season, campsites and resorts are cheaper and quieter.

Tips for the cold season

  • Working heating — a motorhome with a Truma system keeps you comfortable between baths, even in freezing weather.
  • Check which campsites are open — not all operate in winter; call ahead or use up-to-date apps.
  • Hookup power — useful in winter to run the heating without draining the battery.
  • Combine the relaxation with a ski holiday — many thermal resorts are close to ski areas.
